任天堂延續Wii的大勝利, 採取更激進的做法, 首次將平板面板和主機分拆, 原先的想法是兩個玩家可以各自用自己的面板操作... 但後來實際運作卻變成不可能, 原本期待大大勝利的主機卻在這裡被微軟(Xbox One)和索尼(PS4)兩家大廠夾殺, 也成為老任的痛.
但也因為Wii U的概念, 最終誕生了史無前例的超級主機 -- Switch.
